A baby spends most of its time sleeping. This is the time when the maximum growth is taking place. The bed, therefore, is the most important item in Baby’s life. The kind of mattress you get is of paramount importance. There are many unprincipled and unethical manufacturer’s who in spite of Federal laws and Standards, manufacture mattresses with the cheapest possible materials, and claim otherwise.

The conventional mattresses for cribs are made of polyurethane foam, polyester and vinyl. Added to this, antimony, arsenic, and phosphorous are added in order to make it fire-resistant. All these materials are lethal for the little one. All these chemicals and materials give off gases that the baby would naturally inhale. The damage would be irreparable.

For instance, polyurethane foam emits toluene, which for a baby is lethal, to say the least. The infant inhales all these poisonous gases, but the effects are visible only much later in the learning and behavior patterns of the child. Synthetic materials unlike natural materials do not breathe, hence there is no air flow around the baby. This causes the temperature to rise and is very uncomfortable for the child.

The organic baby mattress on the other hand does not use any synthetic material at all. They use certified cotton which is cotton that is got from plants on which no synthetic herbicide or pesticide has been sprayed. Also, no chemical fertilizer has been used in its cultivation. The fabric that is used to cover the organic crib mattress pad is non-toxic as well as stain-resistant.

Since this organic baby mattress is made from natural fibers, there is plenty of air flow, thus maintaining a steady temperature for the child. There are no chemicals in the cotton so automatically there are no toxic gases that the child can inhale. Non-toxic waterproofing and fire protection are the hallmarks of the organic crib mattress.

Another major concern is the thickness of the mattress. The organic crib mattress has a height or thickness of 6 inches. Since the bed is flat and firm, it offers the support that is needed for growing muscles and bones. Many foam mattresses are soft and we think that a soft mattress would be comfortable for Baby. This is not the case, in fact it is quite the contrary.

What baby needs is a firm mattress which offers a strong support.  The organic crib mattress pad fits snugly into the crib. The thumb rule is that there should not be any gap between the crib and the mattress.
