Getting ready to bring Baby home is a very exciting time for the family. Every possible detail is looked into and whatever can be done to make the Baby comfortable in the new surroundings is done. The mattress you choose would determine the quality of life of the baby.
Babies spend most of their time sleeping. It has been found out that babies need 16 hours of sleep. Their bodies are working at peak capacity to adjust to the new surroundings and conditions. This reaction is extremely dangerous because the toxins that are emitted are many times more poisonous than carbon monoxide, and this would be what Baby inhaled while sleeping on these mattresses. Now that these findings have been made known, families with new-born babies should only go in for the organic crib mattress. Organic crib mattresses use organic cotton, which is eco-friendly and safe.
The cotton is grown without any synthetic pesticides sprayed on them. Neither are sprays of any heavy metals used nor are organisms which are genetically modified used on them. The organic crib mattress will need to be waterproof, and polyethylene is used in the construction of this waterproof layer. Polyethylene is non-toxic as well as environmentally friendly.
Protection against fire will have to be used, and in organic crib mattresses, non-toxic materials are added to the cotton to make it fire-resistant. Most importantly, check out the product that you are buying very thoroughly. Sometimes manufacturers, in order to sell their products make all kinds of claims. Be sure and verify all their claims before making your purchase of the organic baby mattress.
Your organic baby mattress should have 100% certified organic fibers. There are federal agencies that create standards for organic baby mattresses. The material that is used has to meet all these standards such as whether it has been made from renewable resources, and whether there has been no destruction of either soil or water in the making of an organic baby mattress.
Ask and confirm that the mattress does not contain arsenic, phosphorous or antimony. Foam mattresses are preferred because they are light and can be turned over.
Use a crib made with natural wood. Check out all the other purchases you have made and see to it that none of them contain non-organic material. This will create the right kind of atmosphere that the baby needs.
